Meditations In the Christmas Story - Christ the Lord

Merry Christmas Dear Reader,

The last three words of the announcement of so vital.  Not only is the babe in the manger a Saviour but he is Christ the Lord.  For those who do not know Christ is not the second part of a common expletive.  It means Messiah.  The literal meaning here is “the Messiah God”.

Even contained in his title at the announcement of the birth is who this child is.  He is the God man.  He is the anointed Saviour of Israel.  He is the one upon whom all hopes and dreams rest.  He is the one in whom we will find the redemption we so desperately need.

These are good tidings of great joy.  We have loaded the celebration of this event with so many things that detract from the great beauty of the event.  We have lost so much of the impact of this moment.  The Creator steps into his creation.  The artist becomes part of the painting.  Once in royal David’s city the world changed forever.

In the stable the God of the universe journeys to us to make a way for us to journey back to him.  That is the story. That is the song.   That is the hope promised for us all.  Strip away all of the decorations and celebration and we still have reason for great joy.  The Spirit of Christmas is this:  The Father of all creation loves us enough to become like us to bring us back to all that is good.  It is this love that is what he wishes us to share with each other and with him.

A Christmas Song – Jethro Tull

Once in Royal David's City stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby.
You'd do well to remember the things He later said.
When you're stuffing yourselves at the Christmas parties,
you'll laugh when I tell you to take a running jump.
You're missing the point I'm sure does not need making;
that Christmas spirit is not what you drink.

So how can you laugh when your own mother's hungry?
And how can you smile when the reasons for smiling are wrong?
And if I messed up your thoughtless pleasures,
Remember, if you wish, this is just a Christmas song.

Hey, Santa... pass us that bottle, will you?

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
