On Prayer – Giving Thanks

Greetings Dear Reader,

We surely do not do this enough.  Just a brief glance around the room reminds me that I have so many things for which to be thankful.  I have so much potential and opportunity.  I need to remember that all that I have both material and spiritual is a gift from the Father.

Genuine gratitude is very healthy.  It promotes humility and hinders arrogance.  It gives one a better perspective on needs, wants, and the needs of others.  I must work at having an attitude that distinguishes clearly between what I need and what I want.  Being properly thankful is key to that.

As I move through my prayer time each morning I make sure that I thank the Father for things both material and spiritual.  I try to utter thanks to the Father whenever something good happens throughout the day.  The added impact is that it makes more thankful for things intrinsically.

A grateful heart grows out of being mindful of being thankful and showing it.  I assure that I express gratitude in my prayer so that I am mindful of the Father’s provision.  It arms me for the day to be thankful for the things others bring to my life.  I have found more than one friend by simply showing gratitude for things.  This of course gives me more for which to be grateful.  I like that cycle.

O Bless the Lord My Soul – Godspell (Lynne Thigpen)

Oh bless the Lord my soul
His praise to thee proclaimed
And all that is within me join
To bless His holy name
Oh yeah
Oh bless the Lord my soul
His mercies bear in mind
Forget not all His benefits
The Lord to thee is kind

He will not always chide
He will with patience wait
His wrath is ever slow
To rise
Oh bless the Lord
And ready to abate
And ready to abate
Oh yeah!
Oh bless the lord
Bless the lord my soul
Oh bless the lord my soul!

He pardons all thy sins
Prolongs thy feeble breath
He healeth thine infirmities
And ransoms thee from death

He clothes thee with his love
Upholds thee with his truth
And like an eagle he renews
The vigor of thy youth

And bless His holy name
Whose grace hath made thee whole
Whose love and kindness crowns
Thy days
Oh bless the lord
Bless the lord my soul
Oh bless the lord my soul!

Bless the lord my soul
Oh bless the lord my soul!
Bless the lord my soul
Oh bless the lord my soul!
Bless the lord, bless the lord
My soul!
Bless the lord my soul!

Wishing you joy in the journey,
