On Prayer – Supplication for Self

Greetings Dear Reader,

Supplication is to ask for something with humility form someone who has the power to grant it.  As I begin to close out my prayer time I ponder what I truly would ask from a Father who has the power to grant anything.  It is easy to think of this as a want list.

Before I ask I ponder if what I want is in line with how Christ wishes me to become as his follower.  I want my desires to be in line with his.  I want my life to be molded by praying for things that matter.

I ask for the big things that matter. Most of those are too personal to list.  They are not selfish.  They are request for things I know fall in line with the Gospel.  I ask for things that I think I need but do so with a heart willing to forsake them if necessary.  Because I would do so with a human father I also ask for things that I just want.  I end with discussing my big dreams.  I have them.

Throughout the day I also ask for help, guidance, and provision in simple things.  I try to stay in conversation with the Father all day long.  I ask for wisdom and guidance in my interactions with others.  I ask that I truly hear when I am listening to someone.  I give thanks for minor things.  I ask for what I need to get through the day following Christ.

It is not wrong to want things.  I must always work to want the right things.  As I turn my thoughts toward Thanksgiving and Advent I recall looking through the Wish Book and making my list of wants.   I hope that they are mostly more mature now.

Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee.
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies.
Well, I'm all grown up now,
But still need help somehow.
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream.

So here's my lifelong wish,
My grown-up Christmas list,
Not for myself, but for a world in need:

No more lives torn apart,
Then wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
And every one would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end
This is my grown-up Christmas list.

As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree.
Well, heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul.

No more lives torn apart,
And wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
And every one would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end
This is my grown-up Christmas list.

What is this illusion called, the innocence of youth?
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth!

No more lives torn apart,
Then wars would never start,
And time would heal all hearts.
And every one would have a friend,
And right would always win,
And love would never end
This is my grown-up Christmas list.
This is my only lifelong wish,

This is my grown-up Christmas list!

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
