Second Thoughts ~ End IT Day 2020

Greetings Dear Reader,

If we are going to be honest, this should cross our minds every day.  It should be in our view constantly until it is unnecessary.  I am not saying that other things do not deserve our attention as well but the deep truth of it is that as long as there are humans selling other humans, we have a plight with which we must deal.

The ENDIT Movement exists to shine a light on human trafficking and slavery.  Tomorrow, February 13, 2020, is the day that they as for us all to raise the flag of awareness.  This is the seventh year that the #ENEITMOVMENT is working to shine a light on slavery.  There are over 40 million men, women, and children in some form of bondage around the world.  Even in countries where there are lower numbers the awareness is not high enough.

Here is what you can do:
Get educated.  The End IT site has vast resources
Spread the word:  Share this post
Raise Awareness:  Wear a Red X on your hand and when people ask why, tell them about human trafficking and slavery in our world.

There is no room in the world for the owning and abuse of other humans.  Join me, Dear Reader, in demanding and working for change, for freedom.  Help me shine a light on slavery.  Help make our world one where it is no longer tolerated.

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Second Thoughts ~ END IT NOW

Greetings Dear Reader,

I realize that we all have causes and political views.  Still it astounds me that we are will to pay a monetary price for the lives of other humans.  This is one of the few causes where I struggle with my anger and sadness.  It is one of the places near to my heart and deep in my soul.

Tomorrow is International ENDIT Day.   That link will take you to their web page.  You can learn just how serious the problem of human trafficking and human slavery is.  One can comfortably read the uncomfortable statistics from the safety of their coffee shop or computer chair.

What I wish to shine a light on tonight is just how prevalent human trafficking is.  Every single one of us knows someone who has been trafficked, prostituted, or enslaved even if we do not realize it.  There is domestic slavery in houses in almost every city.  Women, men, and children are prostituted in every city without exception.  We tolerate it.  We even contribute to it.

This is a battlefield where there are no rusty swords.  It is a war where there are no ceasefires and the enemy takes many prisoners so that he may devour them.  Even those rescued can be poisoned so deeply that they willingly return to their captors because that is the only normal they know.  If you do nothing you aid those who buy and sell human flesh.

Saying that we do not know what to do is no longer a way out of our responsibility.   ENDIT can help you help.  They do the dirty work. You can support them.  You can become a part of something grand that is doing something great.  Raise awareness.  Shine a light on slavery.  Drive away the darkness that consumes so many humans.  Join me in this Dear Reader.

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Second Thoughts ~ End IT Now!!!!!!!!!

Greetings Dear Reader,

Today is the day the I try to call attention to the End It Movement.  The desire is to shine a light on slavery and human trafficking.  For those of you who do not realize it, this happens every day in every large city in America and many other leading nations.

We are talking millions of humans trapped in financial, cultural, or sexual slavery.  Fifty-five percent are women and young girls.  It is worse that the horrors you just imagined.  It is.  I will not tax you further for time.  Click on the End Link above and learn what you can do.

Modern-Day Lepers ~ Cargo

Greetings Dear Reader,

I can still see the horror in the eyes of people who claimed to be Christian.  The girl was young and had no clue about modest dress and Midwestern behavior.  For the past ten years she had been told what wear, how to act, and who to service.

The catalog of bondage and abuse is long and horrifying.  I watched the Christians horrified because her clothing choice did not fit their standards.  I saw them whisper to each other in judgment.  When I called them on it their excuse was, “We have never had to deal with this.”

The scene replays in differing timbres and tones all over the plant.  We see men, women, and children who have been bought and sold.  We investigate the stories with lurid curiosity.  We also find reasons not to get involved.  We explain away the needs with the presence of organizations that meet them.

Worse there are those of us who pretend to care about these victims of human trafficking only to use them for our own purposes.  Some of those entrusted with helping further the abuse.

This is one of those areas where there is too much passive cooperation.  We allow the trafficking of human beings.  We even promote it even if from the gallery.  Any instance of forced labor or unwilling pornography that “benefits” us is participation in this vial practice.  The use of products produced by child labor is participation in human trafficking.  Any custom given to businesses that benefit from human trafficking in any form is participation in it.

We must see that no human is property for possession or designed for another’s use.  Every soul matters.  Every life is precious.  Any tolerance of human trafficking in any form is, well, inhumane.  Shine a light a slavery.  Recognize the problem and stand against it.  I cannot follow Christ if I do not.

Second Thoughts – A Story About Freedom

Greetings Dear Reader,

Sometimes I will end the day with thoughts that are important to get out.  Usually I just write them and put them in my journal folder.  I have chosen that on occasion I will share them with you Dear Reader.

We have so much freedom that we take for granted.   There is one particular freedom that requires our attention daily.  February 25, 2016 is the day this year where we call attention to the plague that is human trafficking.   The End It Movement wishes to call attention to the 27 Million humans that are in economic or sexual slavery in the world.

Whether it is using sex to sell the latest car, shampoo, or snack there is a problem.   Every time we use sex to sell a product we are shadow supporting human trafficking.  I realize that it is unpleasant to think of it this way but we use titillation to draw people in.

My adopted Daughter was a victim of human trafficking.  Every time someone supports pornography they are contributing to this awful industry.   When we accept any objectification of women we passively approve of the sale of humans.  There is very little that is gray about this.

When we demand cheap offshore pricing of goods we are also adding to the support human slave labor.   I am not talking about the economic difference between our nation and third world countries.  I am talking about assuring that those who produce our offshore sourced goods are not slaves to a corporation or a nation.

I realize that I sound very direct here.  It is one of the conditions in our world that angers me to my core.  I must realize and accept that I must love those who cause such strife.  I am still allowed to hate fervently what is done to other humans in the name of profit and lust.  Please find a way to help end this.  Please consider Dear Reader that passive acceptance of this is part of the problem.

Second Thoughts – The 27 Million

Greetings Dear Reader,

Sometimes I will end the day with thoughts that are important to get out.  Usually I just write them and put them in my journal folder.  I have chosen that on occasion I will share them with you Dear Reader.

A week ago I put a red X on my hand to remind others of the curse of human slavery on our world.  I do not know if my doing that made a difference.  I was able to explain it to over a hundred people.  I was able to honor my Daughter Christmas who as a victim of human trafficking.

I was honored to see that it mattered to my friend Robert.  He has a noble heart and took a stand with me.  No matter how much I do enough will not be done until all human trafficking is stopped.  Until the world sees that humans are not a commodity to be bought and sold this blight is a shame on us all.

It is not enough to wear the t-shirt of carry the sign.  We must demand that even the most “innocent” forms of human bondage be stopped.  A dear friend taught me to use the word “evil” sparingly.  Any form of human trafficking is evil.

Here are some raw facts from End It, the organization dedicated to eradicating slavery worldwide:

There are currently 27,000,000 people in slavery in the world (the population of Texas)
The three main categories are Bonded Labor, Forced Labor, and Human Trafficking
Human Slavery and Trafficking generates 152 Billion dollars a year in revenue
Slavery Exists in 167 countries
60,000 people serve in slavery and trafficking in the United States
An incident of sexual exploitation of minors occurs every 3 minutes
55% of forced labor victims are women and children
The average age of a child being forced into sexual slavery is 12-14 years old
The average price of a human being today is $90

It is clear there is a problem.  It may only be solved by every individual refusing to participate in anything that is connected to human slavery.  It is my responsibility.  It is yours Dear Reader.  We cannot ignore it and hope to be bloodless.

Oh suffering soul, crying out for love
In a world that seldom cares
See the hungry heart longing to be filled
Much more than our prayers
And a young girl sells herself on Seventh Avenue
And you hear her crying out for help,
"My God, what will we do?"

Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too
Till your heart breaks from the sorrow and the pain they're going through
With a life full of compassion may we do what we must do
Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too

Oh, the desperate man
Are we reaching for the souls that are sinking down in sin?
Oh, cry for the child
We've lost our passion for the lost and there are billions left to win
And another forty thousand children starved to death today
Would we risk all we have to see what of them say?

Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too
Till your heart breaks from the sorrow and the pain they're going through
With a life full of compassion may we do what we must do
Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too

Why have we waited so long to show them Jesus lives
To share salvation's song
Why have our hearts become so proud that we fail to see
To love them is to love God

And a young girl sells herself on Seventh Avenue
Hear her crying out for help,
"What will we do?"

Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too
Till your heart breaks from the sorrow and the pain they're going through
With a life full of compassion may we do what we must do
Don't tell them Jesus loves them till you're ready to love them too
