Second Thoughts ~ An End Game Review with Zero Spoilers

Greetings Dear Reader,

If you have not yet seen Avengers: End Game, I found it excellent.  I will likely see it again in the next week or so.  I am going to review and there will be zero spoilers.  Please do not spoil it for anyone if you have seen it.

Pointy stick guy saddened by snap and dusty days.  Trash-Panda Bunny hops into action with a boom-stick.  Avengers argue, cry, and assemble to fight Thanos.  Things run between hopeful and despair for hours.   And the ending - they show the credits and the Marvel logo.

There is a Stan Lee cameo that will elicit chuckles and tears.  We all knew this and were still tickled and stung.  It may be the most real thing about Thanos, we lost his creator in a snap.  I struggle with this reality still.

Some of our heroes cannot agree on what to do.  Some do that with which they do not agree.  Some of them seem to have lost all hope and some hope when all seems hopeless.  People around you will gasp, gaffe, and giggle.   You will too.

Practical advice for viewing: 

• Pee as late as you can before it starts.
• There is not a good point to slip out for a potty break. 
• Get the large popcorn. 
• Do not get the large soda (see bathroom advice). 
• Bring some tissue (not a spoiler, you might get a runny nose).
• Help make Trash-Panda Bunny a meme.
• Go to this movie with someone, you will need the company.
• God somewhere after where you can discuss all the ins and outs but be considerate of those around you who may not have seen the movie yet.

Second Thoughts ~ Avengers Infinity War

Greetings Dear Reader,

Sometimes I will end the day with thoughts that are important to get out.  Usually I just write them and put them in my journal folder.  I have chosen that on occasion I will share them with you, Dear Reader.

NO SPOILERS YET

I successfully avoided spoilers when I was forced to wait a week to see the Avengers new movie.  My brother did offer that I would love Peter Dinklage in his role.  I will say no more than that prior to a spoiler alert.

What I will say is that this was an excellent film.  It is also long, so go easy on the 64 OZ Coke.  You may wish to make sure you have snacks if you drama-eat.  I would also choose a comfortable theatre.  The movie keeps building to the very end.

There is humor, tension, shock, and sadness.  It is a well told story filled with all of the right questions about what we value and why.  I would also recommend seeing it with someone.  You will have things to discuss afterward.  Please take care not to spoil it for anyone else.

SPOILERS FOLLOW:  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I find that the premise of this film raises many spiritual questions.  Given the vastness of the Marvel Universe there seems to be a question for me that is loudly begged.  Captain Rogers believes in the same God that I do as evidenced in the first Avengers movie.  That God, the God, is, however, left out of the story here.  Or is he?  

It seems to me that the ability of Thanos to destroy half of all lives in the universe is just a broader example of God allowing free will to play itself out.  In the end he snaps his fingers and kills half of all life.  There is even a web site (www.didthanoskill.me ) that will tell you if you were spared or killed.  For the record I survived.

If all sentient beings have free will and are subject to the nature of sin then it reasons that beings of great power would do evil on a cosmic scale.  It saddens but does not surprise me.  Ultimately, we are subject to the sovereignty of God.  We are free to do evil or good.  We all will face the same God that will judge us not on our deeds but our faith.

This story brings to light the potential of evil to prevail even in the presence of great good.  What it reminds me of is that ultimately good will win.  It does seem in Infinity War and in my world that good has lost for now but not, well, for good.

Second Thoughts – Avengers – Age of Ultron - NO SPOILERS

Greetings Dear Reader,

Sometimes I will end the day with thoughts that are important to get out.  Usually I just write them and put them in my journal folder.  I have chosen that on occasion I will share them with you Dear Reader.

Yester-eve my Son, Bezel, my Daughter, Christmas, and I journeyed to the new state-of-the-science theatre in our town to see the new Avengers movie.  Both the grand opening of the theatre and the premiere of the movie have been long anticipated by us  for months.

Let me say clearly that neither disappointed.   The theatre is reserved seating with reclining seats.  Even the smallest screen is huge and both sound and image are fully satisfying.   The Movie, however…

The new Marvel sendup would have been great even at an old drive in with tinny metal speakers.  Joss Whedon has delivered better than expected but in par with his reputation.  Every moment held the attention.  Every scene was crafted to move the story along without boring setup before delivery.

Character development, back story, and sidebars were accomplished without slowing the action or main story.   Even Stan Lee had his best cameo to date.   You do not need to know anything about the Marvel universe to enjoy the film.  Marvel diehards will not be disappointed at all the tiny Easter eggs and preludes.  

The characters remained true to who we see them as in the comics.  Paul Bettnay was amazing.  James Spader created a better character with his voice than most actors can with their entire being.  Even the secondary castings were obviously chosen with care and precision.

Other than Star Trek films I rarely pay theatre prices twice to see a film.  I will be for this one.  As my Son said, we have waited a long time to see some of this brought to film with so much quality and success.  It was simply MARVELous
