Music of the Season – Silent Night

Greetings Dear Reader,

I have saved this song for last on purpose.  A Christmas gathering I used to attend always finished their caroling around the piano with this.  I made a point of being away from the throng when they did so I could immerse myself in the sound of friends singing such a beautiful song.

Except for White Christmas this is the most recorded song by artists who create Christmas albums.  The link will take you to Enya’s recording of this song in Gaelic.  That is not why I have included it.  I think it is one of the most simple and poignant proclamations of the reason for Christmas.  All of the other trappings and traditions fade into the background in the dawn’s light of redeeming grace.

Everything else about the Christmas season is insignificant to the incarnation of Christ.  It is my fondest wish that everyone know him and see the magnitude of Christ’s love for us.  So to you beloved Reader I wish you a Happy Christmas and that tonight you find time to ponder what Jesus has to offer all on his own.

Silent Night – Joseph Mohr

Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night! Holy night!
Son of God love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth

Silent night! Holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born!

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store."
