Greetings Dear Reader,
Since I spend the bulk of my day in the Petri dish we call
an office I encounter coughs, sneezes, and sniffles daily. Too often the response to these is for people
to back away from the “offending” individual.
This is followed by the person doing the backing away expressing his
worry about becoming ill.
This is simple. I
have real trouble seeing Jesus responding in this way. What the sneezing, sniffling person needs is compassion. What needs to be expressed in the moment is
fearless kindness. What the person needs
is to be cared about and cared for by the people around him.
Instead of treating the sick like lepers we must show
compassion and care. We need to not
distance ourselves or wave the sanitizer as a weapon. We must love and risk. I must not create feelings of isolation and
disregard.
We must offer the person more than a blessing from a
distance.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store.”
