Minstrels in the Gallery – First Thoughts

Greetings Dear Reader,

One of the roles that music plays in my life is that I often think in music.  Before you call the doctors to haul me away let me explain.  There is almost always a song playing in my head.  It comes unbidden and reflects what I am feeling in the moment.

I awaken in the morning with music in my brain.  Today it was a song from my teenage years by an artist I have cherished since I was ten years old.  It made me ponder just how much music influences me and the choices I make because of it.

In my current transition I am privileged to listen to music most of the day whilst I am working.  It has allowed me to revisit music that I have not had time for in well, some time.  Reconnecting with some of that music has awakened some things in me that are very good.

I am going to camp on this subject for quite a bit I think.  In a world where billions of dollars are poured into an industry I must be accountable for the way in which I use and consume the product.

I usually ask you to walk with me as I think through things.  Today, I invite you to take a seat by the fire and enjoy a tune with me.  It is the journey that matters but sometimes we need to sit and examine that which fuels the journey.  As we tarry here a bit I will share the artists I love and how they influence my heart and mind.

Whilst doing so I will look to find deeper ways to follow Christ more closely through my music. To get us started I will share the song that was in my head this morning.  This man’s music does truly heal some of my wounds and still my pain.  My dear friend Ian, a tune if you please…

Songs from the Wood – Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull

Let me bring you songs from the wood
To make you feel much better than you could know
Dust you down from tip to toe
Show you how the garden grows

Hold you steady as you go
Join the chorus if you can
It'll make of you an honest man

Let me bring you love from the field
Poppies red and roses filled with summer rain
To heal the wound and still the pain
That threatens again and again

As you drag down every lovers' lane
Life's long celebration's here
I'll toast you all in penny cheer

Let me bring you all things refined
Galliards and lute songs served in chilling ale
Greeting well-met fellow, hail
I am the wind to fill your sail

I am the cross to take your nail
A singer of these ageless times
With kitchen prose and gutter rhymes

Songs from the wood make you feel much better
Songs from the wood make you feel much better

Songs from the wood
Songs from the wood

Let me bring you love from the field
Poppies red and roses filled with summer rain
To heal the wound and still the pain
That threatens again and again

As you drag down every lovers' lane
Life's long celebration's here
I'll toast you all in penny cheer

Songs from the wood make you feel much better
Songs from the wood make you feel much better

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Aramis Thorn

Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store."
