Second Thoughts – Great Friends and Green Fire

Greetings Dear Reader,

Sometimes I will end the day with thoughts that are important to get out.  Usually I just write them and put them in my journal folder.  I have chosen that on occasion I will share them with you Dear Reader.

There is Green Fire
As I turn my home back into a house and prepare to move to someplace smaller and more Spartan there some things I do not want to overlook.  Last night we had what may be the final fire in our fire pit.   Close friends came as did my Children and Grand Children.

We had homemade peach ice cream, S’mores, and Polar Bears (The latter is a potent potable that is a summer favorite in our clan).   My Son Maxim tried out his new bow and friends join in at testing their skill with our recurve bows.

We had a rich fire tended by Christmas and Dan.   We even had fire salts so that my Grandsons could grow up knowing that there is such a thing as green fire.  It was a fine time with people I love.  As begin packing the flotsam and jetsam that will journey with me the fire pit is one thing I leave behind.

I will miss the cool evenings with a warming blaze.  I will miss the conversation.  I will miss the music.  I will miss the moments.  These people and these moments are precious to me.  I will have to find ways to create other moments with them but I will miss the fires.

I’ve been lately thinking
About my life’s time
All the things I’ve done
And how it’s been
And I can’t help believing
In my own mind
I know I’m gonna hate to see it end

I’ve seen a lot of sunshine
Slept out in the rain
Spent a night or two all on my own
I’ve known my lady’s pleasures
Had myself some friends
And spent a time or two in my own home

And I have to say it now
It’s been a good life all in all
It’s really fine
To have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it’s been since yesterday
And what about tomorrow
And what about our dreams
And all the memories we share

The days they pass so quickly now
Nights are seldom long
And time around me whispers when it’s cold
The changes somehow frighten me
Still I have to smile
It turns me on to think of growing old
For though my lifes been good to me
There’s still so much to do
So many things my mind has never known
I’d like to raise a family
I’d like to sail away
And dance across the mountains on the moon

I have to say it now
It’s been a good life all in all
It’s really fine
To have the chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady
Sit and pass the pipe around

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it’s been since yesterday
What about tomorrow
What about our dreams
And all the memories we share

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
