Greetings Dear Reader,
I know that some of the most peaceful moments in my life
have been when I was in or on the water. I recall moments as a teen when I
spent weeks swimming or scuba diving. My
mind clears and the feeling of connectedness to all creation washes over me.
It is always a surprise to me that even in July the pool
where I live is still chilly. Still I am
amazed at how many people flock to the water once summer arrives. Since there are five large lakes within easy
driving distance once sees boats and other watercraft every weekend.
We join in this cacophony of corporate worship of the sun
and water. We squeeze as much as we can
out of the warm leisure days. I swim and
soak in the sun. My solitary swims serve
as exercise and meditation. The repetition
of strokes and laps create a rhythm that becomes peaceful and restorative.
One of the celebrations of summer is the re-creation of
ourselves into people of the water. We
find one of those intangible benefits there that becomes addictive and, in most
cases, good for us. I have seen so many
clear reminders of the beauty of creation in and on the water.
I celebrate the water and the life it supports. I find it beautiful and amazing. I miss living on a beach and an almost daily
visit to the ocean. I am thankful for
the beauty and awe of some things I have seen.
The mystery of some of it still intrigues me.
Listen to the Song of the Sea. Perhaps you can find something to call you there
as well. “I was born in the sign of
water, and it is there that I feel my best.”
How about you Dear Reader?
Song
of the Sea – Dan Fogelberg
Broken clouds along the blue horizon
The sun is setting and the wind is dying down
Outward bound, there is music all around
Can you hear it, it's the song of the sea
The sun is setting and the wind is dying down
Outward bound, there is music all around
Can you hear it, it's the song of the sea
Soundings taken at the edge of darkness
The widest silences the heart can ever hear
You can steer to the stars along your lee
Set you bearings to the, the song of the sea
The widest silences the heart can ever hear
You can steer to the stars along your lee
Set you bearings to the, the song of the sea
Oh and the song is as ancient as the days
And the winds upon the waves
Let it carry you away, so far away
Let it carry you away, so far away
Trim my sails to greet the breaking morning
Past the headlands to the rolling open sea
And it comes to me, I have never felt so free
As when I'm listening to the, the song of the sea
Oh and the song is as ancient as the days
And the winds upon the waves
Let it carry me away, so far away
Let it carry me away, so far away
Some were meant to watch the world from windows
And never look beyond the road beneath their feet
But for me, I was always meant to be
One forever chasing the song of the sea
The song of the sea
The song of the sea
The song of the sea
Wishing you joy in the journey,
