Greetings Dear Reader,
Yesterday I saw the movie God’s Not Dead. It is set on a college campus where a freshman is to defend the existence of God in a philosophy class. The professor requires all of his students to
write that “God is Dead” and sign it.
This one student refuses.
The movie is well made and the characters have more depth
than I have seen in most Christian films.
The writing avoids clichés and too much “Christian” language. The arguments used by the student are valid
but need further development. I think
that the casting is excellent.
I would not recommend this as a tool for convincing atheists
that God exists. It does serve to encourage
believers. It is also an excellent
conversation starter. The conversation
after the film could be very rich if one is honest. It is worth seeing but the Christian film
industry seems to still be in its adolescence.
Of note should be the attempt to tell a story that intersects on many levels without the connections being unbelievable. There are a few moments that cross the line of the believable but a Christian watching can see the sense of most of them. For those who do not believe and choose to see this film, I would value a conversation about it.

Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store."
