Holy Week ~ Worth Dying For – Weeping for the City

Greetings Dear Reader,

When Jesus weeps over Jerusalem it is because they have rejected him.  It is because his offer to redeem them is met with unbelief.  His heart breaks for what he could have done for them.

This is the day that he foretells her destruction.  They have traded faith and following for pride and independence.  They want a conquering King and do not recognize him as the Pascal Lamb.  There is also the paradox of omniscience.

The Father is an ever-omniscient counter-puncher.  The offer is genuine.  Knowing the outcome and preparing the next move is chess not dishonesty.   The Son offers, the people reject, and the Father counters.  The stage is set.   For three years the Son has shown all that can be had by loving the Father with all one’s heart.

The people want a champion.  They do not see that the one who weeps for them is more than a champion.  We do not know where Jesus passes the night.  We do know he carries the sorrow of a reject betrothed.  He already holds the weight of dismissal and rejection.

He has acted the obedient servant.  This is his role for now and he understands it.  He weeps for city worth dying for.  He sleeps whilst other things continue to move.  The Pharisees seek an answer to destroy him.  And another is thinking to push him to act with Authority.

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
