Greetings Dear Reader,
People who know me well will verify that I love words. I see words as the essence of
communication. I choose the words I use
carefully and savor the inference of meaning.
I realize that this exasperates some of you but what I care about is
clear communication.
Being a speaker of English I enjoy a language where works
are borrowed, co-opted, pillaged, and kidnapped from other languages. There are so many ways to say things. Words drift in and out of popularity
depending on the environment, culture, or many other factors.
Some words need to stay in our culture that have fallen out
of fashion. When we lose some terms from
common understanding I feel that it erodes our culture. I know that I need to keep them on my radar
so that they remain a part of who I am.
I do not mean that I wish to be every word I will discuss but rather
that I want to assure that I either embrace or avoid the ideal that the word
represents.
Many words are clear in their meaning. Others have variations of meaning or are so
full that they need context. As I have
always told my students when it comes to words context is everything. Let us walk a little further discussing words
that I feel are vital to our culture.
Your thoughts as always are welcome.
The
Final Word – Michael Card
You and me we use so very many clumsy words.
The noise of what we often say is not worth being heard.
When the Father’s Wisdom wanted to communicate His love,
He spoke it in one final perfect Word.
He spoke the Incarnation and then so was born the Son.
His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one.
Spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way
Divine.
And so was born the baby who would die to make it mine.
And so the Father’s fondest thought took on flesh and bone.
He spoke the living luminous Word, at once His will was
done.
And so the transformation that in man had been unheard
Took place in God the Father as He spoke that final Word.
He spoke the Incarnation and then so was born the Son.
His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one.
Spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way
Divine.
And so was born the baby who would die to make it mine.
And so the Light became alive
And manna became Man.
Eternity stepped into time
So we could understand.
He spoke the Incarnation and then so was born the Son.
His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one.
Spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way
Divine.
And so was born the baby who would die to make it mine.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store."
