Greetings Dear Reader,
When Jesus comes upon a fig tree in full leaf, he rightly
assumes that is has fruit even though it is not fig fruit season. The tree is telling everyone that it has
fruit. It is “acting” as if it has the thing
it is supposed to produce.
Jesus condemns the tree.
It dies. He uses the lesson to teach
his followers faith. It is significant for
so many reasons but the fact that he seizes on faith and forgiveness
matters. He knows that the tree has no
fruit. He knows that the faith of his
followers will be tested. He knows that
they will have need to forgive in so many ways.
If we hold out that we follow Christ and do not have faith
and forgive then we are only holding a pretense. We are showing that we are something we are
not. It is putting out the leaves
without having the figs.
When I fail to forgive and fail to live by faith I am only
pretending to follow Christ. I am only
making a pretense of embracing the love and compassion of the Father. As I move toward the cross and the
resurrection I move toward a place where I need forgiveness. I must also forgive and have faith that doing
so will be the right path.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store.”
