Greetings Dear Reader,
When you think about heaven, what is your mental image? What do you picture as the seat of the
Father? How do you think about this as
the location of the Father when pursuing him in the moment?
I am not going to attempt to describe heaven to you even
though we have some hints given to us.
Rather, I am pondering how do I deal with what seems like a distance and
destination that makes our journey necessary.
This is why I take the approach that I do in my blog and in life. I believe we are all on a journey back to the
Father.
The idea is to get so used to being with the Father in each
moment of life that the transition is an easier one. The purpose of this journey is to get
home. The idea is to learn along the way
to love the Father with all of our being.
It is to see that nothing here is permanent except the love and grace we
show to our fellow travelers.
I think, rather, if we are going to interact with the idea
of our Father in heaven, we need to give our attention to living out the
concepts that Jesus taught us about what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. He gave us several parables about the nature
of heaven. What they teach primarily is
that location and description are not what matter. Who we are in that location is what is
vital. Becoming like the nature of that
place is our obligation as we journey home.
If I am to absorb the words of Christ that inform me what
heaven is like, I must accept that I am required to try to live as if I am
there in every moment. We must rise
above the clamor of the ills of this world and live as if we represent the Kingdom of God. It is important to
understand that the reason we live out love, grace, kindness, and mercy toward
others is so that they can get a glimpse of what the Father has in store for us
all. It is so that we represent our home
well.
I will never be perfect this side of home Dear Reader. I do wish to hone my skill at representing
home and the Father as I travel through this world. I must reflect the Kingdom and its King. I must live the change that is being made in
me. If we travel together it is easier
to encourage each other along the way.
This is not simply mysticism. It
is preparation for the end of the journey.
So, whilst we travel, tell me a tale of the Kingdom and I will tell you
about my travels thus far.
Pilgrims
to the City of God – Michael Card
Pilgrims of passion we follow the One
Who holds out a cross and a crown
We travel a dark road that has but one Light
For we have here no lasting town
Sometimes we run by the power of His might
On our own, at the best, we can plod
What we hopefully look for is just beyond sight
We are pilgrims to the city of God
The stigma of strangers lost in a strange land
In a fallen world that's not our home
But we are not homeless prodigals here
Because we have someplace to go
Sometimes we run by the power of His might
On our own, at the best, we can plod
What we hopefully look for is just beyond sight
We are pilgrims to the city of God
Behold you have come to Mount Zion
The City of Great King
To thousands and thousands of angels who've come
Assembled to joyfully sing, they sing
Sometimes we run by the power of His might
On our own, at the best, we can plod
What we hopefully look for is just beyond sight
We are pilgrims to the city of God
Wishing you joy in the journey,
