Gratitude ~ Brats (Bratwurst not Misbehaving Children)

Greetings Dear Reader,

If you read this and pronounce “brat” wrong you will think I am a cannibal.  The last time I wrote about this someone did that.  Do not do that.

I realize that it may seem odd to refer to a food item as a thing to include in a month of expressions of gratitude.  Then again if you have read the chapter in Sheetrock on the Road about Georgia Peaches you will know that there are some foods about which I am quite passionate.

Brats are one of them.  More important to me is the World’s Largest Brat Festival.  This is a charity event held over Memorial Day weekend each year.  It begins early on Friday with Take Your Brat to Work Day.  About 24,000 brats will be purchased and taken to work to remind people about the festival.  Then they open the local Colosseum grounds for four days of brats, live music on four stages, carnival rides, and all-around fun.

What is beautiful about the event is that it almost all of the money raised goes to support local charities.  It is a charity event that has grown from a man with a grill and a vision to one that has hundreds of volunteers supporting dozens of charitable organizations.

I am grateful for the fun and the benefit to the community.  I am grateful for the organizations that donate their time and resources. It is good to be reminded how many groups there are in my community that serve the needs of others.  Oh, and the brats; I am very grateful for the enjoyment of a warm grilled brat with mustard, onions, sauerkraut, and relish.  What do you like on your brat Dear Reader?

Wishing you joy in the journey,

Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
