Second Thoughts ~ Brat Fest Statistics

Greetings Dear Reader,

The World’s Largest Brat Festival is over for 2018.  It began on Friday with Take Your Brat to Work Day where this year 33,559 brats made their way from Willow Island to various stomachs around the Madison area.  They count so many other things whilst chasing the record for most brats sold in a weekend.  The current record if we count Brats, Hotdogs, and Veggie/Vegan “brats” is 242,188 established in 2010. 

Some of the things they count each year are:

•          Brat Fest mustard consumed: 93 gallons
•          Ketchup consumed: 74 gallons
•          Sweet relish consumed: 128 gallons
•          Sauerkraut consumed: 245 gallons

I looked for a statistic on chopped onions but could not find one.  It did occur to me that there are so many things that add up over the weekend festival.  We should find a way to count them and raise more funds for charity doing it.

Other things Brat Fest could count:

•          Sunburns and by degree:  Free burn cream for the worst sunburn in each category.
•          Mustard Stains:  Could be sponsored by Tide Pods as long as they are placed far enough away from the condiment table.
•          Tears shed chopping onions:  Maybe this would get me my onion statistic as well.
•          Spilled Beers:  If you spill too many you should be forced to take a beer carrying course
•          Tears shed over spilt beers:  Understandable but still countable
•          Mosquito Bites:  Distance from water and location of bites categories should apply.
•          Bad/Drunken dancers:  Must provide video
•          Brats Dropped by Children:  I have seen this every year
•          Brats Dropped by Drunken Dancing Adults:  I have seen this every day every year.
•          Yellow Jacket Stings:  Not as common until day four
•          People who get sick on carnival rides after eating too many brats:  No video please

I find this event a perfect harmony of humor, food, fun, charity, and music.  It ebbs and flows in popularity and population.  It does me great good to see so many volunteer to help those in need.
