Happy Christmas Dear Reader,
When Christmas is elusive it becomes me to focus more clearly
on why Christmas means so much to me. Pushed
to the wall on this, my love for Christmas does stem from my love of God and my
fellow travelers back to him. I love the
trappings I have enjoyed for so many years but leaving them behind still drives
me to be out among humans trying to put a bit of joy into the day.
Too often the trappings, traditions, and activities may mask
this part of my heart. It is not hidden
from me but others may not see it. I
think of the words of Tiny Tim as reported by his father, “He told me, coming
home, that he hoped the people saw him in the church, because he was a cripple,
and it might be pleasant to them to remember upon Christmas Day, who made lame
beggars walk, and blind men see.”
I do not want attention because of my current difficulties
but I do want people to see me go through them in faith and hope. It is not my difficulties that matter here
but rather that I follow the one who will make all things good again. I serve the one who will make all things
right in the end. Christmas is about the
answer to all of our hopes and fears. It
is the resolution of our empty time to bring it to fullness again.
Where is Christmas?
It is at the heart of my prayer for you and yours Dear Reader. It is at the moment when we hear the song
within the silence that will never be quieted.
It is in my yearning for everyone, not just me to have joy, love, peace
and the favor of a Father who loved us so much that he would not live without
us.
Where are you Christmas?
It is the underpinning of all that I hold dear about this Holy Day. I offer this December Prayer in hope that you
will find Christmas with me this year Dear Reader. Can you see the beauty when there is nothing
there? Do you see that we are not
alone? I know I feel alone at times but as
always, those feelings must take a back seat to the truth.
I need to remain humbled and amazed at the constant stream
of love, mercy, and grace that flows from the Father to me if I will simply be
bathed in it. This is where we find
Christmas. This is the December prayer
that we need. Enjoy the song Dear
Reader. Tell me about the song you hear
in the silence. Tell about the angels dancing
in the air. I am praying that you find it
all. Your stories encourage me so much.
December Prayer –
Indina Menzel
In the touch of a friend, in the breath of a child,
In the eyes of a soldier coming home to his mother's
grateful smile,
In the sight of falling snow, and the memories it brings,
In the season when you find some peace, in the simple tender
things,
Open your heart and look around, listen; listen
Hear the song within the silence,
See the beauty when there's nothing there,
Sing a song within a silence that hope and love are
everywhere,
And when the quiet night is falling watch an angel dancing
in the air
To the song, the song within the silence a December Prayer,
December Prayer.
In the strength of your hand as it holds unto mine,
And the promise that we're not alone in this place and time,
In the gifts that you give I am humbled and amazed
Far beyond this day and time of year
We are in a state of grace.
Open your heart and look around, listen; listen
Hear the song within the silence,
See the beauty when there's nothing there,
Sing a song within a silence that hope and love are
everywhere,
And when the quiet night is falling watch an angel dancing
in the air
To the song, the song within the silence a December Prayer,
A December Prayer
Listen; listen
Hear the song within the silence,
See the beauty when there's nothing there,
Sing the song within a silence that hope and love are
everywhere,
And when the quiet night is falling watch an angel dancing
in the air
To the song, the song within the silence a December Prayer,
A December Prayer.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
