Greetings Dear Reader,
In the series The Walking Dead, it takes a full five seasons to have an honest classic deathbed scene. Bob Stookey is bitten and dying. Other terrible things happen to him but I will allow you to discover that on your own. What Bod does, that so few do, is he accepts his situation.
He understands that we are all dead men. It is the world we abide in that makes it that way and we are the ones who killed it. In his final words, he tells Rick, the leader of their small band that we must hold onto hope. We must realize that we are living in a nightmare and then he says, “Nightmares end. They shouldn’t end who you are. And that is just this dead man’s opinion.”I have written previously about the fact that we are the walking dead. We who have found Christ are being reanimated from our dead state to that of the living. The difference is that we are improving through this process. We are becoming the antithesis of the nightmare in which we currently walk.
A difficulty we face is that we get bogged down in the journey back to life by opinions that are not a reality. We are distracted by popular opinions that dismiss truth and reality to a degree that robs us of hope and joy.
I am going to spend a few days on those opinions so that I can more clearly navigate this hoard of walkers that I am supposed to love and help rescue. I really do believe some things that are seen as foolish and archaic in the popular opinion. My values are often seen as thinking that should be rejected as evil.
The evil, Dear Reader, is to fail to see that we are the walking dead and we need life. We are the ones who brought death to the world and we continue to feed on the flesh of those who need life instead of accepting that there is a cure for death available to us.
I hope that you will walk with me for a bit whilst we consider the opinions that others call offensive because they cannot see past their dead hunger. I will try to say things in a kind and gentle way. If my words still offend you, remember that they are just another dead man’s opinion.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
