Why Church ~ Excellence in What Matters

Greetings Dear Reader,

We have talked about the areas where it may not be good for the church to place its resources.  We should discuss what churches should be doing with their time and resources.  Part of this is understanding where Jesus placed his focus.

Wherever he went, Jesus cared for those in need.  He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and saw that the Good News of the Kingdom was presented to any who would listen.  We see him doing all this without care for the social standing of the person.  He does not bring race into it.  He never stumped for votes to meet the needs of others.  He did  not grow rich off of the needs of others.

The church must be excellent at the things that Jesus did and told us to do.  We should be the example of caring for the needs of others.  We must be the ones to go to when in crisis.  We must count on the Father to provide for our needs and in turn care for the ones who cannot see Jesus because of their needs.

The simple answer is that we must care for others as Jesus did without questioning how it may or may not turn out.  The resolution of things is up to the Father.  Obedience to love is our place.  Excellence in love is our duty.  If we turn a blind eye to anyone in need we cannot see clearly enough to follow Christ.  We cannot love our neighbor, stranger, or enemy and ignore that they are hungry.  Rejecting anyone is refusing to love them where they are.

The church must become the place where people go when they have a need.  It is our responsibility and
e are not allowed to delegate it to others.  We must be excellent at being the friend of all who need Jesus, no matter how they see him.  It is in this excellence, Dear Reader, that we become the church we are meant to be for the world.

Jesus Friend of Sinners – Casting Crowns

Jesus, friend of sinners, we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus, friend of sinners, the truth's become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they're tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I'm so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours; Yeah

Jesus, friend of sinners, the one who's writing in the sand
Make the righteous turn away and the stones fall from their hands
Help us to remember we are all the least of these
Let the memory of Your mercy bring Your people to their knees
No one knows what we're for only against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours

You love every lost cause; You reach for the outcast
For the leper and the lame; they're the reason that You came
Lord I was that lost cause and I was the outcast
But You died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at Your feet
'Cause You are good; You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to a world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks Yours
And I was the lost 'cause and I was the outcast, Yeah
You died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at Your feet

Wishing you joy in the journey,
