Second Thoughts ~ Signs of the Times

Greetings Dear Reader,

I hope you see the humor in this that I do.  I see so many people draw vague or clear conclusions concerning the end of days.  They see signs and portents in everything.  They point to world events and give you that knowing tone and look.

I cannot speak for anyone else.  I do however know that given all of the Bible and theology I have studied (it is a great deal and you are free to ask about it), the only thing that is clear is that we do not know when the prophetical things in the Bible will unfold.  We are supposed to believe that they will and I do, but Jesus said that no man knows when it will happen.

There are things for which we can watch.  We are supposed to keep watch.  There are portents.  We are not supposed to test the Father by asking for signs.  We desire the return of Christ if we are honest in our faith.  Here are a few things, however, that should be put in perspective.

Every time there is a global crisis people start pointing to the end of the world.  Whether it is war, pestilence, or natural disasters, there will be those who assure you that this is a sign of the end.  The difficulty is that they never show you why this is true.  So far, they have all been wrong.  We are supposed to want Christ to return but not ignore our mission here when we think he will.

The signs of the time may serve to remind us to watch whilst we work.  They are not permission to abandon those who need to see our love and grace.  They are not meant for us to cause fear in others.  If we truly believe that Christ’s return is on the horizon, we should be living like it.

We should be sharing our resources, time, and grace in a way that shows love to every need.  I must not waste my time speculating on the things I cannot know or influence.  I must invest my time in love, kindness, and grace in a way that draws others to Christ.  The signs of the times, Dear Reader, are the same as they have ever been.  Jesus will return.  It is closer than it was yesterday.  The current distress is not a surprise to the Father or a portent of the Apocalypse.  All signs point to love still being the way to live.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
