Cheshire Cat Theology ~ Closing Thoughts

Greetings Dear Reader,

In case you have missed the point, I am not pointing to the Cheshire Cat as a source of theology.  Rather, I am saying that there are truths we can carry from Lewis Carrol’s tale and this character that can help in forming a theology of transparency and wisdom.  The lessons there can help us to see the value of being disconnected from the world whilst existing in it.

In case I have not said it clearly in some while, I do not want anyone to join a specific church or practice in a peculiar way.  What I do want is for every human to see how much Jesus loves each one of us.  That encounter; that realization changes things.  It creates a new space where we can know where we are headed and who leads us there.  It is an encounter that sets us on the path to every moment of life mattering.

You notice that Alice encounters the Cheshire Cat on the path and the exchange changes the story.  The real opportunity is to follow Christ not as a religion but as a relationship that leads us to be better humans.  There is no room for hatred in this journey.   Malice and greed have no footing on this path.  We do not declare everything good but we embrace that we are all crooked sticks in need of redemption from our own failures.

We can cast aside worry and fear.  That too is not part of the path.  We will seem mad because of our hope and faith.  We will appear to be fools but faith appears foolish to those who do not have it.  My reality, that God loves us and is working to make things good again without forcing us seems like madness from the outside.

What I must do is love others fully and allow them the chance to see why.  Then as they catch a glimpse of Jesus, I must begin to diminish so that they can embrace Christ on their own.  That, Dear Reader, is not impossible.  We can become followers of Christ who smile and fade quietly from view as we step aside to watch others find their path with Jesus.  When we do, that smile will remain, hanging like a Cheshire Moon in the darkness, inviting others to follow as well.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
