Enchanted ~ The Power of Gold

Greetings Dear Reader,

The adage when pursuing a story on corruption of most forms of crime is to follow the money.  It is not wrong to have money.  It is wrong to hoard wealth whilst others are in need.  I believe that most people do not consider how wealthy they are.

There are those who have genuine need and are poor.  Then there are the rest of us.  Whether it is new shoes, shiny electronics, or the latest car, it all comes back to money and affluence.  I have more than I need and I work at not increasing my standard of living.  I feel more comfortable when the money is there.  Instead, my comfort must come from knowing that the Father will supply all of my needs.

We become so enchanted by money that it draws us into feeling that it is our security.  As someone who has been well off and been homeless, money is never the answer.  It is a necessary part of the way we do commerce in our society.  It is not something by which we should be enchanted.  It is never where our security is found.

This is a constant struggle for me.  I want money for good and for selfish reasons.  I want to be generous.  It thrills me to help others.  I also want other things.  I have to live with the reality that one of my books could be seen or picked up in just the right circumstances and could become a huge seller overnight.  The only way I can see to manage a sudden infusion of wealth is to plan for it. 

If I live with a generous and giving spirit now, it will be a habit if my abundance increases.  If I trust the Father to provide for me rather than my own skills, I can stay closer to the right perspective and attitudes. I must recognize what my true needs are and live within my means today so that I do not act foolishly with what I have.  My goal is not to sell a million copies of every book I write.  It is to sell 10,000 books a year.  This would enable me to write full time and see the people that the Father puts on my heart. 

Only be being aware of the power of gold can I protect myself from its enchantment.  When you pray for me, Dear Reader, please pray that I can earn my entire living from writing but also that I will never be enchanted by the power of gold.  I want to be giving in all things because of genuine love for Christ.  I want to help those in need and use gold for good.  The power of gold is a strong and subtle enchantment.  It is only through constant vigilance that I can resist it.  Come along, Dear Reader, the next round is on me.
