Happy Christmas Dear Reader,
“Don’t despair if you are short of cash. Be Creative.
Looking back, you’ll discover that the Christmases when you had the
least money were the ones that left you with the best memories.”
We all face times when things are difficult and we do not
know how we make ends meet. Christmas is
a time when want and need can be felt more keenly. It is a time when we must focus on the needs
of others but it can also be a time when we are tempted to despair over our own
needs.
I have been in this place this year. It is a Hard Candy Christmas; a reference
to a time when poor people might only be able to give their children some hard
candy for Christmas. I cannot in honesty
and faith despair. Even thought I am
uncertain of how to get through tomorrow I still have so much for which to be
thankful.
The joy is that I can be good to my family and share the joy
of the season with them no matter the situation. The hope is not in buying the gifts and having
the answers. It is in remembering that I
do not need those things to be kind to others.
I can still be loving and good. I
can still be patient with others when they are not.
The joy is in seeing a hard candy Christmas as an
opportunity to be creative and remember that we can give much more than things. “And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then
the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he
thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little
bit more.”
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store.”
