Breakfast at Tiffany's ~ Opening Thoughts

Greetings Dear Reader,

First, let me explain that I am currently referring to the song, not the movie.  We will get to that in this discussion but not today.  The song is below for you to ponder as we think through this.  Part of being at peace in the world is finding our common ground.

As I think through the trouble of our time, I consider that we have far more in common than we have as differences.  The path to peace is to see the things we have in common and embrace them.  When someone embraces a philosophy that does not match ours, we let that be what stands out in our evaluation of him or her.

I think that as we look at the things that divide us, we may be able to find the common ground we need to work together.  If we focus on our differences for the sake of division, we will be successful every time. We can instead learn to see that we do not have to agree on everything to be at peace.

Further, for Christ-followers; for me, it must be that I do not expect others to conform to a certain standard or lifestyle for me to deal with them through love, kindness, and compassion.  Philosophies and preferences are not differences that allow me to withhold love from others.

As I walk through a song and a movie, I plan to consider how I can use common ground to walk the path of peace.  I long to use that common ground to be an example of Christ and what it means to follow him.  I must find ways to slice thinly the difference between our common ground and the things that divide us.

It is our common ground and our differences that make us who we are, Dear Reader.  I must find ways to celebrate the common without violating the truth.  I must seek to see the common ways in which we struggle to find our way and show love to my fellow travelers.  It is not always easy but always worth the effort.  Please feel free to walk with me and enjoy the journey.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Deep Blue Something

You'll say, we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You'll say, the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
Still, I know you just don't care

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany's
She said I think I remember the film
And as I recall I think we both kind of liked it
And I said well that's the one thing we've got

I see you the only one who knew me
And now your eyes see through me
I guess I was wrong
So what now
It's plain to see we're over
And I hate when things are over
When so much is left undone

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany's
She said I think I remember the film
And as I recall I think we both kind of liked it
And I said well that's the one thing…

You'll say, that we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You'll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
Still, I know you just don't care

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany's
She said I think I remember the film
And as I recall I think we both kind of liked it
And I said well that's the one thing we’ve got.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
