Greetings Dear Reader,
When my Daughter Christmas first came to live with us her
faith was very basic. We were going
through a Bible Study with people from our church when someone pointed out how
important it was to remember that Jesus is God.
He is the Son and part of the Trinity.
After everyone left it was obvious that Christmas was quite
upset. She already loved Jesus. She still had issues with God. She did not want Jesus to be God. Her vision of who God is was skewed by the
people who claimed to be Christians but constantly abused her.
I see two very important things about which I need to be
clear. The first is that our culture wants
to minimize the deity of Christ without diminishing the things they like about
him. When forced to confront who Jesus
is they water him down or deny him outright.
We cannot embrace Jesus without embracing all that he is.
The second thing is that Christians very often misrepresent
who Jesus is. We use language that does
not communicate well. We add more to the
Gospel than Jesus intended. We ignore
that parts of his teachings that are hard for us. He is used for private purposes and to
manipulate others.
No matter where we are in our journey back to God we need to
see Jesus as he is. He is the
God/man. He is not just a good man. He is not for private use but he is
personal. He is not for private
interpretation but applies uniquely to every individual. He is an uncompromising complex contradiction.
Once again when we try to diminish who Jesus is we lose the
power of what he asks. We lose the
ability to see his purpose. We need what
Jesus offers. Watering that down in any
way or adding to it even a little is wrong.
It is in Jesus that we live, and move, and have our
being. There is a “master plan” and I
have not idea what it is. I know that it
involves getting things back to “good.”
I know that it is tailored for every one of us. The rest I have to learn as I follow in
faith.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Aramis Thorn
Mat 13:52 So Jesus said to them, "That is why every writer
who has become a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a home
owner. He liberally hands out new and old things from his great treasure
store.”
