Carrying Christmas in my Heart ~ Driving Home For Christmas

Happy Christmas Dear Reader,

Today I will begin my journey north for Christmas.  The journey is one that excites me.  I will get to see my Sons, Grandsons, and others that I love.  The drive itself is one that I anticipate with joy as I fill my sleigh with gifts and drift along the highway praying and taking in all that the Father has made that is so beautiful.

I will likely stop at the same diners and servos along the way.  The drive is quite familiar to me and there are landmarks I look forward to seeing.  I have truly learned that wherever I can share love is the holy ground I seek.  This Christmas is so very different for me because I have shed so many expectations.

When my younger Son asked me what I wanted for Christmas this past week, I had no idea and quickly came up with something practical.  I do not have a list.  I do wish to have my tortoiseshell but the Father will provide that when he is ready.  I wish to derive my living from my writing.  I am, however, done with material things that are easy to list.

I look forward to driving home so that during the journey I can be kind to clerks and servers along the way.  The journey is the destination.  The road is not a home but it is what leads us there, Dear Reader.  I will write to you tomorrow from somewhere in Kentucky or Illinois.  I will keep Christmas in my heart as I drive by praying for you and remembering the joy you bring me as we journey together.

I'm driving home for Christmas
Oh, I can't wait to see those faces
I'm driving home for Christmas, yea
Well I'm moving down that line

And it's been so long, but I will be there
I sing this song, to pass the time away
Driving in my car
Driving home for Christmas

It's gonna take some time
But I'll get there
Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights all around
But soon there'll be a three-way
Get my feet on holy ground

So I sing for you
Though you can't hear me
When I get trough
And feel you near me
I am driving home for Christmas
Driving home for Christmas
With a thousand memories

I take look at the driver next to me
He's just the same
Just the same

Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights all around
I'm driving home for Christmas, yea
Get my feet on holy ground
So I sing for you
Though you can't hear me
When I get trough
And feel you near me
Driving in my car
Driving home for Christmas
Driving home for Christmas
With a thousand memories

Wishing you joy in the journey,
