On Prayer ~ What Do You Believe?

Greetings Dear Reader,

When it comes to prayer this is a vital question.  Jesus very clearly connects faith and belief.  I think that if you ask anyone who follows Christ if they believe in the power of prayer, they will say yes.  I also think that if we look at how we use prayer, I am not sure that the faith is there.

One of the things I always notice is what we say to others regarding prayer.  When we ask for prayer it is almost as if we are apologizing.  Someone asks how they can help when we have a problem.  We respond with, “Oh, just pray.”   The sound of it when we say it is there is nothing else and this is our last resort.  That last resort should be my first response. 

In everything I do, my first thought should be to involve the Father.  Jesus talks about prayer, he prays, and he instructs us to seek the Father in everything.  Instead, it seems that when we ask for prayer, we almost apologize for it.  We convey our faith in prayer in the way we treat asking for it.  “Just pray,” is a faithless response.  It dismisses the reality of what we seek.

From treating prayer as a last resort to our lack of involvement in it, we do not embrace the true power of prayer.  This is a simple “how-to” when it comes to prayer.  Do it.  Make time for it.  Pray for others when they ask for it even if their request is a last resort or dismissive cliché.   Tomorrow we will dive into a deeper understanding of what it means to pray without ceasing.  For today, Dear Reader, focus on what you believe when you pray.

The simple answer is that you are given leave to approach the Creator of all that is freely.  You have the power to ask for anything you wish.  All that that Father asks is that you do so out of love for him.  One can simply frame things in love for the Father and that will help filter out many things that we should not ask for from him.  Do we believe that our prayer has power, Dear Reader?  Without faith, it is foolish for me to think that my prayers make any difference at all.  With faith, however, mountains can fly.
