Running from Truth ~ Lapping the Lies
Greetings Dear Reader,
In many families there are stories we tell about our elders that we believe are true. Sometimes they turn out to be false. I had a family member who told stories for years of his time as a military pilot. Others would repeat these stories sighting his heroic acts. After his death, it saddened me to discover that he never served in the military at all. When I told other family members the truth, they insisted that my information from the government was in error. Some continue to tell these tales as part of this man’s legacy.
One of the ways we run from the truth is by perpetuating generational lies. We have stories in our families that are handed down year after year. Our shared story becomes part of our shared identity. The history may not be true but we keep running with the lies. We will lap the truth with the legends and make them part of our choices about faith and following.
When we seek to follow Christ, we must seek him in truth. Those who believe and those who do not run laps around lies that do not represent who Christ truly is. There are those who carry with them the belief that hatred and condemnation are the ways in which we should conduct our faith. Some of us make laps around lies that do not represent who Jesus is.
I do not ever pursue a religion. I try to follow Jesus. I have gone through times where I bought lies that did not represent who he is and who he wishes us to become. Lapping lies is another way in which we run from the truth. We drink down things that are not true to satisfy our own desires for faith and following. We remake Christ in our own image and so our faith becomes idolatry.
We run laps with the lies to promote our position thus running from the truth. Who Jesus is and knowing him matters much more than any of our philosophies, theologies, and policies. We must follow Christ in truth. We must constantly examine who Christ is and live in that truth. Anything less, Dear Reader is choosing to promote lies that hinder our faith and following. It is running from the truth in ever-wearying circles of futility.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
