Work and Worship ~ Sunday is Not Enough

Greetings Dear Reader,

When we gather on Sundays, it is often called “the worship service”.  No matter what shape this takes for you, it is our corporate time to worship God.  For some, this is all there is.

I thoroughly believe we should have this time.  I also believe we rarely get it right.  That, however, is not my focus here.  It is the rest of each week concerning my thoughts.  Sometimes our attitude of worship does not last as long as the parking lot.  It is the worship we carry through the remainder of the week about which I am concerned.

I think just as we are to be in a constant attitude of prayer, we are to let all we do be an act of worship.   The difficulty is we make worship too lofty and religious.  The Father desires for us to love him with all we are.  Doing this means when we talk with him, we do so out of love.  He wants a conversation like a father and a child should have.  Worship is the same.  It is being enamored of the amazing nature of a Father who does all he can to reassure us of his love for us.

It is desiring for his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.  It is counting on him for provision, forgiveness, presence, and power in all things.  Worship can be simply doing things with the Father as opposed to doing things for the Father.   We can see worship even more clearly if we do it laterally.

Keeping your word to a fellow human is an act of worship to the Father.  Loving your neighbor, enemy, or stranger is an act of worship.  As I ponder this, Dear Reader, I realize finding the place where the Father inhabits our praises is simple.  If I treat every act as an opportunity to worship the Father, then I am constantly inviting him to be God with me.  This chance is enough to make Sunday morning not enough for me.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
