Greetings Dear Reader,
The Bungee Harness
workout is one wherein one straps oneself to a bungee cord attached to an
immovable object and wears a harness attached to the other end. It creates increasing tension as one attempts
to run away from the area of attachment.
Greater energy is spent attempting to make forward progress.
Things that create resistance in exercise are valuable
because they increase effort and multiply the effectiveness of the
exercise. Used properly, resistance is
good in this way. Running away from the
tether yields different and better results than simply running. This benefit, does not, however, apply to
everything.
We are, whether we accept it or not, tethered to God. When we run from him, we engage a resistance
that is truly futile. One cannot escape from
someone who is everywhere and every when.
We focus on destinations that we think will hide us from God and instead
we find that those destinations include him in some way.
Even though we gain no distance from God, we do collect the
weariness of energy spent trying to escape his love and persistent calling to
us. It is more like building tension
that will eventually snap us back to where we began to run demanding that we
face the truths we cannot escape. We
grow tried and weak in trying to escape the inescapable unrelenting force.
As I have been flung back to places where I began to run, I
have seen the depth to which this is true.
The pull of grace and love is irresistible. The tension of it is tethered to our hearts
and creates great pain until we allow it to heal us. The vibration of the tension plays a siren
song that demands that we stop running and allow that love to envelope us. It is that tension that shows us just how
futile it is to resist the Father.
The beauty of it is that when we stop resisting it, we find
that it is what we needed all along. It
is able to create a wholeness in our hearts that makes us strong and vital
again. The simplicity is that it is a
simple act of the will to stop resisting.
It is a basic choice to turn and face the anchor to which we are
irrevocably tethered, Jesus. The only
real freedom is found in accepting that tether and following its lead Dear
Reader.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
