Greetings Dear Reader,
I want to consider two more aspects of being salt. I feel they go together well. When we consider how we use salt, two primary functions are cleaning and preserving. Both of these are clear cases of how the right amount is vital.
Whether it is internal cleansing or cleaning a wound, salt can be quite beneficial. It must be understood how painful this can be. It works but it is not comfortable. The same thing is true when we need cleansing. It is not easy to clean out the things in our lives keeping us from loving the Father as we should.
In order to be the salt of the earth, I have to do so understanding my gentlest and kindest corrections are going to cause discomfort. This means I must do all things possible to be loving in my thoughts, words, and actions. Discomfort must come from the Spirit and not my judgment or condemnation. In this way, I am out of the way of the Spirit’s work in healing the body, mind, and spirit.
The other aspect working with this is preservation. If we are going to preserve food, we know salt is often required. Again, we help preserve the work of the Father in the world by being faithful to our place in following Christ. It is the grace and mercy of the Father sustaining all good in the world. The Spirit, however, chooses to use us to administer some of this.
My kindness, gentleness, and love can aid in others holding on when they wish to give up. I can be the conduit through which the Spirit reaches out to others for the sake of preserving their faith and following. We are tased with allowing the Spirit to use us to preserve the world through faithfully loving it as he does.
As a cleansing and preserving agent, we are in the world to heal and sustain it. We are to accept our discomforting role in this and live it out as loving and gentle beings. If we seek to flavor the world in this way, we can stay out of the way of disharmony and strife. If we find we are causing strife or failing to love, we may wish to consider if we are too salty. Balance in this is vital to our roles, Dear Reader. Again, our role is a humble one and not to overpower the process.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
