Second Thoughts ~ In Defense of Lauren Daigle

Greetings Dear Reader,

Lauren Daigle recently received great criticism for her Ellen DeGeneres Appearance.    Anyone who knows me will tell you that I do not use “colorful metaphors” or coarse language.  I realize that this sounds puerile and simplistic but it is a standard I hold and a line I rarely cross.

That said, those of you who are judging this amazing gifted artist for appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show need to just shut the hell up.  Do you really think that you serve Jesus by judging her choice when her song of love and acceptance can give hope to millions?  Do you honor Christ by treating what you call sin in others as worse than your own sin of failing to love everyone unconditionally?

Those who follow Christ are to be recognized by the love they show to friends, family, strangers, and enemies.  Every single human on the planet has failed God in some way.  Every single one of them is someone we are supposed to love in the way that Christ loves us.

Lauren Daigle provides quality music that points us all to see how much Jesus loves us.  If the Father chooses to put her on a broader stage then we should be praying that her message is clear and that she is protected from the snares of that environment.  We should be pouring our own love out to her for being faithful to Christ in her art.

I also want to touch on the reason that others are judging her.  Let me be very clear.  I do not have to agree that homosexuality is right to love someone who is gay.  I refuse to tolerate condemnation of others by those who have not handled their own sin.  How fat are you?  How much do you gossip?  How often do you fail to love the Father with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength?

Until you have a perfect score on that last one you cannot judge a young woman for singing a great song about God’s redemption on a TV show that seeks to treat all people with love and respect.  If we take the proposed position of those judging Lauren Daigle then how do we ever hope to show the love and hope that is in Christ?

I realize that this is more of a rant than my usual musings.  I also realize that Lauren Daigle and Ellen DeGeneres will likely never see it.  You, however, Dear Reader did.  Please take the time to consider how far we have to go in our own redemption.  Please stop judging everyone.  Please let us remember how to love others so that they can see the love of Christ.  If you cannot speak to others in love and kindness, please just shut the hell up.

Still  Rolling Stones – Lauren Daigle

Out of the shadows
Bound for the gallows
A dead man walking
Till love came calling
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)

Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)

All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go

The darkness should have known
(You're still rolling rolling, you're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones
(You're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones

Now that You saved me
I sing 'cause You gave me
A song of revival
I put it on vinyl
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)

I once was blinded
But now I see it
I heard about the power
And now I believe it
Rise up (rise up)
Rise up (rise up)

All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go
The darkness should have known
(You're still rolling rolling, you're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones
(You're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones

I thought that I was too far gone
For everything I've done wrong
Yeah, I'm the one who dug this grave
But You called my name
You called my name

I thought that I was too far gone
For everything I've done wrong
Yeah, I'm the one who dug this grave
But You called my name
You called my name
All at once I came alive
This beating heart, these open eyes
The grave let go
The darkness should have known
(You're still rolling rolling, you're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones
(You're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones
(You're still rolling rolling oh, you're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones
(You're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones (you're still rolling, rolling)
(You're still rolling rolling oh, you're still rolling rolling oh)
You're still rolling stones

Liked your thoughts. My hope is that Lauren's beautiful lyrics and her blessed voice will reach out to people -- if they pay attention to what she is saying, it will touch their hearts.

  2. Sounds like everyone is judging here. Sorry. All I see is obedience in Lauren. She was just doing what Jesus did and called for us to do
