Greetings Dear Reader,
I mentioned when we began this series that a blinking check
engine light is much more serious than a static one. According to my owner’s manual, this is the
seriousness of the blinking check engine light.:
A blinking check engine light will pop
up on your dashboard display when your engine misfires. This
means that the engine is dumping unburned fuel into your
vehicle's exhaust system. This is a serious problem because it can rapidly
raise the temperature of the catalytic converter.
The point is that when it is blinking, it demands attention
and should not be left to blink on ignored.
We have such a check engine light.
It is the most common analogy I can summon for our anger. We journey along through our day with the
intent to love and honor others. Then something
offends us. We grow angry and the light in
us begins to blink. If we ignore it, our
day can be diverted in ways we do not wish.
We are warned that our anger must not live out the day. It is clear that we give a foothold to our enemies
when it does. When we do not deal with
anger it festers and infects us. It
brings us in conflict with our prime directive.
One cannot hold anger and seek love at the same time. It impossible for our blinking anger to abide
with a heart that is at peace.
The journey home requires that we be angry when it is warranted
but that it has no life after the day. I
must feel it, understand it, and find love, forgiveness, and peace to banish
it. It is not possible to journey well
with leftover anger. It blinks on,
demanding our focus and weakening our following, Dear Reader. Let us agree to service each instance as soon
as possible and before we claim our rest at the end of the day.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
