The Path of Peace ~ The New Normal

Greetings Dear Reader,

We keep hearing about the new normal that is rising in our culture.  I think that if we are going to abandon things, we must know that to which are we going to make normal.  I think that we need to also ask if what we seek is an honest product of our methods for getting there.

It could be that we have forgotten that only love yields love.  I hear so much hatred from conservatives and progressives regarding each other that it saddens me.  Hatred never yields love. It never yields peace but we convince ourselves that it does. We want our new normal and convince ourselves that any method of getting there is acceptable.  We are willing to hate in order to get it,

As long as we hate those who oppose us, we cannot build a normal that is free, loving, and sustainable.  We are unable to birth peace through hatred and violence.  It could be that some have forgotten this and that some have never learned it.  Still, the division is so great in our society that we have not tried to fix it through the things we all value,

I would submit that everyone needs to begin by loving others from the heart.  We need to see that we all want peace and freedom.  We need to also admit that we want that defined by our own creed and not to include theirs.  I want every human to embrace Jesus and follow him.  I am not willing to deny their needs and freedom to choose to get that desire met.

The hard and narrow path to walk is to give others the freedom necessary to this thinking and realize that they may still do horrible things.  The deeper truth is that they will do horrible things and call them good.  The path to peace is to love so deeply and consistently that evil makes itself evident.  It is our love and kindness that must radiate to others.  Our righteousness and doctrine will need to be what we carry and not what we insist others adopt.

I must make others remember what it is like to be loved.  I must push them to the place where love is what they want.  That push itself must come from our demonstrated love as well.  Our words only matter when others feel so loved that they insist to know from whence we acquire that love.  We can then stir the memory or create the knowledge that Christ loves them to a depth that cannot be measured by our minds.  Only then, Dear Reader should we speak of the difference from the selfish methods we all pursue to that path of peace Jesus asks us to walk.  Only then can we create a normal that works for everyone.

Wishing you joy in the journey,

"You know, my dears, the world has been abnormal for so long that we've forgotten what it's like to live in a peaceful and reasonable climate. If there is to be any peace or reason, we have to create it in our own hearts and homes." -- Madeleine L'Engle, A Swiftly Tilting Planet
