Greetings Dear Reader,
As the division in the world grows, we too often see people
quoting Jesus or using him to represent their position. There is nothing wrong with that if the purpose
is pure and the representation is accurate.
The difficulty is that more often than not, Jesus did not say what is
attributed to him or it is taken out of context.
To further the problem, conclusions are drawn on what he did
say that do not reflect the character of Christ or his purpose for us. Whenever we use the words or actions of Jesus
to further our agenda, we are practicing a form of idolatry. We distill the Son of God into a caricature
that fits our religious, political, or social plan. We use him to fit our purposes when we are
supposed to be used by him to further his purpose.
We think we understand the mind of God. We pridefully laud or denounce him with slogans
and chants. There is no substance to our
belief if it does not include a proper understanding of Jesus is and what he
wishes for us to be as his followers.
This is what I seek daily, Dear Reader. This writing in the morning is designed to
help follow Christ more closely. I share
it with you in hope that you may discover some encouragement or a morsel of truth
to help your journey. We are going to
look at some things that Jesus did not say or imply that seem to be popular among
his followers or his detractors. Perhaps
together we can understand Jesus a little better and find the heart of the God
who would rather die than live without us.
As always, your thoughts and questions are welcome and treasured.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
