A Prismatic View ~ Past Light

Greetings Dear Reader,

We cannot catch light in a bottle, yet.  We know that light has particles.  The light is meant for now.  It is there to show us the way to the next place.  It is there to guide us home.

The light of the past, however, gets skewed as we get away from its moment of reality.  Our present is very poor at remembering accurately the light of the past.  I once saw a triple rainbow on the backdrop of the darkest clouds I have ever seen.   The light seemed to touch and colour everything around it.

Our past pain is like this.  It has a prismatic effect on our ability to see the present.  Recently someone used my past failures to see me in the present.  The hurt was deep and strong.  My old, dark responses wanted to react and have a voice.  I wanted to also see this person through the refracted light of the past.  That, however, is wrong.

We need to use the light of the present to see people as they are currently.  The light of the past will be fractured and not show all that there is to see.  This is why forgiveness and grace are vital to our shared journey.  The only light I can use to view others is the light of the moment.

The question must always be whether we see the situation in light of Jesus, the Light of the World.  If we seek Christ in the moment, we are much more likely to see others in his light.  We can find the light we need to reject the voices from our past that cry out for us to see things the way they wish to colour them.

The prism of the past wishes to taint the light of the present.  It wishes to imprison us in its view of every moment.  What I must do is only live in the light of each moment, following Christ and allowing him to show me what is real.  That is how we fight the voices that vie for our attention when we need to be present for others.  It is how we move in light that reveals the truth, Dear Reader.

Others may temporarily or permanently see us only through the fractured prism of our past and theirs.  We must not allow that refracted light to change what the true Light, Jesus says about us.  We are more than the fading light of our past.  We are light and life renewed in every moment that we choose to walk in the light of Christ.  In that light, we can experience the beauty and grace that can be found on our journey home.

Wishing you joy in the journey,
