Greetings Dear Reader,
Most of the world heard over the weekend about the passing
of Sean Connery. A friend posted a
picture of him as Ramirez in Highlander with the tag, “There can be only
one.” We discussed it and he was making
the point that there will never be another Sean Connery. The world will mourn the loss of an actor who
always gave a film a lift even if the movie was junk.
We note the passing of the famous but not the passing of everyone. Today is the day where we are reminded that we are not physical beings who act spiritually. Rather, we are spiritual beings who are for now limited by the physical. Every human is a transmigrating soul who belongs to eternity.
As we journey through this world, we are required to see
every soul as one that is worthy of love, grace, and kindness. I say this often but this day, All Souls Day
reminds us that as we enter the season that follows, its purpose is to put us
on the path to redemption of those souls.
Out of respect for my friends who feel displaced concerning
Christmas trumping Halloween, I avoid mentioning this until after All Hallows
Eve. When people ask me what about
Thanksgiving, my response is simple. We
have created a day set aside for giving thanks related to the origins of our
nation. There is no reason that the
truth of Christmas cannot coexist with Thanksgiving.
I am not speaking of the commercial venture that surrounds
the day of Christ’s birth. I am speaking
of the need to “carry Christmas in my heart all the days of the year.” Honoring Christmas and the work of redemption
means that I see every soul as one that Christ loves. There is no room for anything but love of
those souls from me. We are all required
to love the Father and to demonstrate it by loving others.
Today begins my journey toward Christmas and it is the last
day of the All Hallows Blue Moon. I will
mark it by seeking to love everyone at a depth that helps them to see Christ
and his love for them. The full moon
will wane and pass into darkness.
Through every phase of the moon, there is a constant in the change. The constant is that Jesus loves every
soul. He wishes for me to do the
same. The journey is much lighter when I
see every soul as unique.
The blue moon reminds us that those under it are exceptional
and it is the nature of the moon that we are all under it. We will journey on perfecting love. I will always love you, Dear Reader. After all, when comes to your soul, there can
be only one.
Wishing you joy in the journey,
