Who Do You Blame? ~ Governments, Societies, and Factions

Greetings Dear Reader, 

This may be the most common assignation of blame I see.  Ponder with me how often we see someone blaming Washington, the Democrats, or the Republicans for their ills.  Consider how we think that the other side of whatever social issue is the problem.  We square off based on the control we think we have over the things that are larger than all of us. 

I imagine the good we could do if we decided to agree on some very basic things.  If we took a stance that no one should go hungry, everyone should receive health care, and that every life is sacred, we would not be caving to a faction.  We would instead, be recognizing truths which we already know are there.  You have to walk pretty far into a lie to agree that children should go hungry.  We have to be callous to say that veterans can tolerate homelessness.  We are entrenched in lies that allow us to make social issues an either-or situation.  We blame the opposition for the difficulty we see in solving the problems. 

As Christ-followers we cannot say that ignoring the needs of anyone is good or godly.  It is not an either-or when we consider the needs of those in our cities and those on our borders.  We must love every human and if possible, meet their needs.  This how we become the hand and feet of Christ in their lives.  Instead, we blame the other side and politicize hunger and homelessness.  We make the death of babies a rights issue instead of standing as one against willful genocide.  

The only way to turn this tide is to quit blaming others and accept our individual responsibility to the needs of the world.  We should be the first thought others have when there is a need  The church is supposed to be the beacon of hope in a hurting world.  Instead, we play a constant game of Rockem Sockem Robots with the opposition while the world burns. 

The call is to community.  Christ is the one calling us.  There should not be a political or social test to see if others get to live.  We can solve these issues if we try.  What we do not do is see past our own agenda to the real needs.  We can all do more, Dear Reader.  How can you make that a reality?
