Happy Christmas Dear Reader,
What did you write down yesterday? How are you going to change the world? When we determine that faith and following is
the way, then we can truly make changes that matter and make sense. There are also the changes that are
unexpected.
When we ponder the world in which Mary lived, we see a place where a conquered and oppressed nation waited for God to free them as he had so many centuries past in Egypt. They knew that the Father had brought a nation to its knees with supernatural acts. This is what they expected. This is where their hope collectively and individually lay.
Look at what Isaiah says will happen: But there will be no more gloom
for her who was in anguish. In earlier times He treated the land of
Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He will make it glorious,
by the way of the sea, on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walk in darkness will see a
great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. You
will multiply the nation, You will increase their joy; they will
rejoice in Your presence as with the joy of harvest, as people rejoice
when they divide the spoils. For You
will break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, the rod
of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian. For every boot of the marching warrior in the
roar of battle, and cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for
the fire. For a Child will be born
to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on
His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase
of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and
over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and
righteousness
From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of armies will
accomplish this.
This was what everyone from the Pharisees to the lowest shepherd
looked for on those cold winter nights in a land that once flowed with milk and
honey. They expected a sudden
supernatural change. Instead, the Son wraps
himself in the unexpected. Jesus pours
himself into us by taking on human form.
He spends the next thirty-plus years doing the unexpected.
We think we know God.
The truth is that we barely conceive one drop in the infinite ocean that
is our Creator, King, and Saviour. All
he asks of us is that we love him and each other. He promises that if we do, the adventure will
unfold to that time when all that Isaiah said is true. He also promises that we cannot conceive of
how beautiful it will be.
I am going to continue living the mystery and try to stop
trying to guess the ending. I know that
all things will be good again. What is in
between is unexpected and wrapped in the Cheshire smile of the Father knowing what
is best for me. I am writing down that I
will follow in faith and live the journey as it unfolds. I will marvel in the unexpected as the Father
continues to write my story. I will
follow Christ as the author and finisher of my faith. I will scribble my stories and live the mystery.
How about you, Dear Reader?
If we wish for Christ to be born in us, we must allow him to do the
unexpected. We must see the gift that is
this mystery, the God of All Creation wrapped in an infant, born in a stable,
and living in us if we allow it. I
happen to love a good mystery; especially when I know the end will be a good
one.
The
Mystery - Michael Card
When the Father longed to show
A love He wanted us to know
He sent His only Son and so
Became a holy embryo
That is the Mystery
More than you can see
Give up on your pondering
And fall down on your knees
A fiction as fantastic and wild
A mother made by her own child
The hopeless babe who cried
"Was God Incarnate and man deified?"
That is the mystery
More than you can see
Give up on your pondering
And fall down on your knees
Because the fall did devastate
Creator must now recreate
And so to take our sin
Was made like us so we could be like Him
That is the mystery
More than you can see
Give up on your pondering
And fall down on your knees
Oh, that is the mystery
More than you can see
Give up on your pondering
And fall down on your knees
Oh, that is the mystery
More than you can see
Give up on your pondering
And fall down on your knees
Wishing you joy in the journey,

a disciple of Christ’s rule of the universe is like a homeowner. He liberally
hands out new and old things from his great treasure store.”
