I read a meme this past week that I will edit to lose the
vulgarity in it. I would also replace
the cynicism with hope and a little grace.
The paraphrase would be, “November is the month where people who have
been jerks for the last eleven months want to show us how thankful they are.”
There are other approaches to this. I try to focus on gratitude daily all year
round. During November, I try to find
ways to up my awareness of that for which I should be thankful. I also try to share my journey in this with
you so that perhaps you can find more gratitude in your life. I am not saying that you lack it. I am suggesting that, like me, you can also find
more things for which to be thankful.
This year, I want to focus on small things for which to be
thankful. I want to focus on the many
simple things that result in the complexity of creating a life filled with
gratitude. As I am learning about the
darker parts of my heart and combating them, I was told this: “Anyone who spent
a great deal of time with you will overthink everything in good and bad ways.” That hurt deeply because it is true. I am, however, thankful for the understanding
it gave me. I realize that one of the
keys to unlocking those chains in me is gratitude. If I can become more grateful for what I have
then I will want less.
Another aspect of this is that we can even be thankful for
the things in our lives that need repair, retooling, or refit. Those are all opportunities to grow. They are chances to be better than we were
yesterday. The love of the Father pushes
us to be better every day. It asks that
we see just how much he showers his love on us in every moment.
I want to see his love in the simple things so that they
build into a constant attitude of gratitude.
If I can focus on developing simple gratitude in my daily journey, then perhaps
I can build that into a life of gratitude that expresses the love of Christ in
all that I see. I am thankful, Dear
Reader. I want it to show. If you would walk with me for a bit, I will
share my simple gratitude with you. I will
share my thoughts with you and as always, welcome yours. If we spend the month doing this, perhaps it
can become a habit.
Somewhere Only We Know — Kacey

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river, and it made me complete
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river, and it made me complete
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me.
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I’ve been dreaming of?
I felt the branches of it looking at me.
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I’ve been dreaming of?
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on.
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in.
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin.
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on.
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in.
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin.
And if you have a minute, why don’t we go,
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything.
So why don’t we go,
Somewhere only we know?
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything.
So why don’t we go,
Somewhere only we know?
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on.
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in?
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin.
I’m getting old, and I need something to rely on.
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in?
I’m getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin.
And if you have a minute, why don’t we go,
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go?
So why don’t we go?
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go?
So why don’t we go?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know?
So why don’t we go
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know?
